The Original Celebrity Chef
Being a Mom is pretty stressful at times. One of main times when my stress levels seem to peak is while making supper! The end of the day is when everyone, including me, is reaching their limit. Tiredness, irritation, impatience, whining and rumbling tummies take their toll around 5pm! I am very fortunate to have a husband who enjoys cooking and ultimately this means he makes the majority of our main meals but there are occasions when I do get in front of the stove. When this does happen you can be assured that the meal needs to be 2 … Read More »

Book Club Choice – The Reunion
One of the many things motherhood changes is the fact that your time is no longer your own. Sadly, days spent lounging in the sun reading a novel become a distant memory. Imagine my delight when this past weekend I was able to do just that!! It’s been over 5 and a half years since I spent daylight hours reading and I must say I have missed it. You might well be wondering what happened that I suddenly am able to indulge – well I was technically “working” you see – reading a novel to review. It was just a … Read More »

The Help on DVD and Blu-ray: Win one of 5 copies!
Finally the long awaited release of The Help on DVD and Blu-Ray takes place today! As this was definitely my favourite movie (and book) of 2011, I am going to be one the first to get my hands on a copy of this great film. It seems like a great one to add to my collection of classics that can be re-watched over and over again! Octavia Spencer, who plays Minny in the movie, just won the “Best Supporting Actress” at the Academy Awards for her role! Here are a few stills from the movie… Have you watched The Help? … Read More »

The painting that was specially commissioned for the cover of the book was sponsored by Jeannie Meiring, professional artist of more than thirty years. The painting was auctioned during a silent bid at CANSA’s 80th Gala Dinner in … Read More »
What I…. Melinda from Diaries of a White mother raising a Black baby
Today I am excited to interview Melinda from Diaries of a white mother raising a black baby! This is her space where she writes about her ups and downs bringing up her adopted daughter, Emma. What I… Know Having figured that I knew it all after my ¼ life crisis, it took my daughter to make me realize I in fact know nothing. I don’t know why the sky is blue or why rainbows have the colours they do. I don’t know what a butterfly is called a butterfly and I don’t know why cheesy toast tastes better than cheesy … Read More »

Taschen’s Home Turf
As I might have mentioned I adore books of all shapes and sizes, however I have a particular passion for coffee table books – the heavier the better! One of my favourite publishers is Angelika Taschen who publishes books under the Taschen label. Her focus is on publishing beautiful books about art, interiors, design, gardens – all topics I love. The photography is always breathtaking and I especially love the interiors featured – always original and inspiring. Over the years I have added to my collection, the titles I have so far include: Gardens in France, Provence Interiors, Seaside Interiors … Read More »
