What I… Zodwa Kumalo-Valentine
Today I’m so pleased to share with you this “What I…” Interview with well-known South African journalist, blogger and online content manager for a top retailer, the very talented Zodwa Kumalo-Valentine! She blogs under her own name at http://zodwakumalo.wordpress.com/ as well as adding her voice as a mommy blogger on the My Balancing Act Blog.
I’ll let her describe herself…
I used to be a print magazine girl – paper will always be my first love (Ed: Her work has appeared in almost all the top South African print publications namely Grazia, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan South Africa, Your Baby, City Press iMagazine, Women’s Health, PiE, ELLE South Africa and DRUM.) But I’ve had an obsessive, insatiable love affair with digital space since 2001.
I started blogging in 2008 (I’ve tried posterous, blogger, tumblr and wordpress). Now my obsession has spilled over into my professional life and I’m now the online content manager at Woolworths for fashion, beauty and homeware. Dream brand, dream job. (Ed: I’ll say!!) and I still get to do a bit of freelancing…
I have been married for five years to the love of my life whom I met on a dance floor in varsity! Together we have two kids age 3, and 10 months and we moved to Cape Town just over a year ago. We are blessed a thousand times over!
Know: I am loved and have loved. It hurts sometimes but life is nothing without love
Love: beautiful clean typography, clever illustrations, being in transit, peonies, flat whites, dinner parties, long lunches … I’m obsessed with blue, kids’ clothes, good hair and good blogging
Read: right now – Andrew Solomon’s Far from the Tree – it’s changing the way I thought children should be raised. Completely edifying – and I’m only a chapter in
Want: more time – to knit & crochet, to spend more time with my husband and kids and not have to think about work and deadlines, to draw, to take more photographs, to decorate my new home, to drop two dress sizes, to learn more, to take a sabbatical, to live abroad for at least two years, to drink more bubbles
Wear: I shop everywhere – locally and abroad – especially online. Right now I’m partial to voluminous skirts, collared shirts, loud earrings, statement neckpieces, cinched-in waists, well-crafted flats and comfortable heels
Need: more travel holidays abroad, to update my iTunes and download more music, start running
Thanks so much Zodwa for taking the time to share some of your life on my little blog! So lovely to “get to know you”. I hope we get to meet in person soon!
