I’m so pleased to have BOTH Emily and Liza from I Heart Your Outfit as part of my “What I” series…
Emily and Liza have been best friends for over 20 years. Now that they’re all “grown up”, together they own a writing and copy-editing company called Copy Ink, they both have baby daughters (maybe they’ll be best friends too?) and are set to continue their friendship for hopefully another 20 or 30 years. I Heart Your Outfit is a space where they share stuff they love especially in fashion, beauty and the good life in Cape Town!
I’m a very blessed woman to have such a gorgeous, caring husband, a beautiful daughter, a successful career and a huge amazing family.
My family, summertime, travelling, magazines, books, shopping, swimming in the sea, macaroons, chocolate, Mexican food, sushi, organic markets, making lists, my supper club girlfriends, our blog, my job, bubble baths, Yankee candles, afternoon walks with my dog, baking, date nights…
I’m slightly obsessed with magazines (okay, crazy obsessed) so I like to spend time in Exclusive Books browsing through all the international glossies, and picking my favourite. I’d buy them all if I had the budget, but I usually settle on Vogue UK. Emily and I also subscribe to Vanity Fair, and every month I devour my favourite local glossies. My taste in books varies widely, I’ve just finished reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (fascinating true story) and now I’m onto Long Walk to Freedom – finally! Other books that rank high in my memory are The Poisonwood Bible, Middlesex, anything by Wally Lamb.
A Gruber & Whale handbag. Made from the finest, softest leather and crafted to perfection, I am coveting one of their bags in such a big way.
At the moment I’m wearing a lot of shirts – I have a green silk shirt, a denim shirt, a blue and white pinstripe shirt, an oversized white shirt, another oversized white shirt – and I seem to be rotating them with jeans, high-waisted pants and dresses, and accessorising with scarves and belts. I like to experiment and I go through different phases but I’m never over the top and I usually keep my style quite casual.
A spa day! I’ve been working my butt off the last few weeks – it really does make a difference having a business partner to share the load and with Emily being on maternity leave I’ve come to appreciate her on a whole new level.
I had a baby 6 weeks ago, and I now know what what love really is…
On the top end of the LOVE scale there is my God, my husband, my baby, my family, my best friend Liza and my staffie Zula. But I also have a lot of love for freelancing, our blog iheartyouroutfit.com, Kitkats, my Blackberry, my pink skinnies, e.e cummings, sunny afternoons and my mum’s roast chicken… I could go on forever. I gotta lotta love.
I am passionate about English literature. From the age of 13 I was devouring everything from DH Lawrence to the Brontes, Daphne du Maurier and of course, the ever popular Miss Austen. I’m currently reading a book set in WWII called The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. It’s gorgeous.
A vintage Chanel handbag… and world peace.
I like to think of my style as a little bohemian mixed with a little classic chic. But maybe that’s just in my head! Basically, I wear what I like.
A new couch. Seriously. The one I have gives us back spasms. Other than that I’m currently in desperate need of a pair of high-waisted flares. I’ve been on the hunt for many a month. Shops label any pant with a bootleg a flare and anything that comes above the hip bone as high-waisted. Not so… what I’m after is a full on pair of Saturday Night Fever pants and I shan’t rest until they’re mine….
Thank you lovely ladies – such lovely answers.
