Our last morning in Victoria Falls broke… and we were up with the sun again.
From our balcony we watched it rise over the Zambezi River, and two countries (although from above you can’t tell where the borders are!)
We relished every moment.
As the light changed and the sky brightened and the morning greeted us, Africa crept into our hearts a little bit more. There’s something about Africa. Something in the air. You can’t quite explain it in words. It really has to be “felt”. A magic that creeps into your heart and into your bones and tugs you back at every opportunity. We couldn’t quite believe that we would be leaving so soon!
Trying to make the most of our time in this beautiful place we walked across the lawns of our hotel to the helipad just outside the gates…. All set for our once-in-a-lifetime, must-not-miss “Flight of Angels” helicopter flip over the Victoria Falls!
We did have to think twice, and a few times more, about the cost of this one BUT we soon realised that this was really a no-brainer. Yes, it costs money, but “experiences over stuff” is a mantra I’m trying to live by and THIS was an experience of a lifetime. So we closed our eyes and handed over the credit card (Dollar to Rand exchange rate being what it is!)
And, well, I’ll let the pictures tell the rest of the story…
What did I say? Once-in-a-lifetime!
From above we could see our hotel, Elephant Hills Resort, the endless red African earth of Zimbabwe and beyond, the Zambezi River with pods of hippos chilling in the water, the cascading falls and the zig-zag of the crack in the earth that caused these falls to form.
To see this spectacular sight from the sky was awe-inspiring and really gave such a sense of scale to it’s majesty.
We left humbled, with adrenalin pumping through our veins!
Our time in Victoria Falls had come to an end, but not before it had forever left it’s mark on our lives. This is a place of friendly people, warm welcomes, adventurous activities, sunny smiles and special memories. Experiences and encounters we are so grateful to have had.
